Trekking Nieves Negras Glacier

Go deep into the heart of the mountains with this trekking through the Colina valley until you arrive close to the Argentinian border. Our goal is the Nieves Negras viewing point, where you will have privileged and unique views of the mountain range.

Description

We will start from our hotel and head east. After 80 km (2 horas) we will arrive to the Colina valley, close to the Argentinian border, where we find the famous Valley Baths. There we will start our walk to the frontier pass of Nieves Negras. This trail will offer us an impressive view of the mountain meadows and mountains up to 3.500 Mt. After a 3 km walk, we will cross the Volcan river to finally arrive the Nieves Negras viewing point where we will enjoy privileged views and where we will have the opportunity to hold, even closer, some of the Andes mountain secrets.

•Location and season

Our trip passes through a big part of the Cajon del Maipo taking us close to the border with Argentina. The beginning of this excursion is located in the region of the beautiful Colina Baths.

From that point on, we will start our walk on a soft 8 km trail that will leads through some wide and beautiful mountain meadows, which will allow us to fully view the San José volcano with his enormous hanging glacier. The walk takes about 2 hours (one way) and has a height difference of approx. 290 mt.

This excursion is only possible in summer and winter. Access closes due to the road conditions.

•Activity Outline

Participants, together with our guides, will be able to walk this trail safely which leads to the Nievas Negras glacier. There a safety briefing will be done in order to know emergency protocols. After that, the trekking will begin. There are short stops so you can enjoy the landscape, get to know the vegetation and biotic environment you are visiting, and finally arrive to the lake.

We return by the same trail and will take up to 1,5 hours.
